TRIGGER WARNING: This comic contains graphic depiction of physical abuse and domestic violence. Melissa Mendes' grandfather, John Albert Ridgeway wrote a short autobiography at the end of his life. It chronicled a long life of hard work, and inspired Melissa's minicomic series, the Weight. Issue five focuses on an unsettling depiction of Ray's physical and emotional abuse against Marian and Edie. When Edie attempts to stop Ray from beating Marian, she too is hurt. Marian is forced to get Edie to safety, even at the expense of her own. This issue starts with such a violent scene, it's easy to look past the second half of the comic which is full of far more tension, and ends with one of the most unsettling panels we've ever seen in a comic.
