Wash Day is a slice-of-life comic written by Jamila Rowser, and drawn by Robyn Smith that pays tribute to the beauty and endurance of black women and their hair. Kim wakes up after a light night out, and devotes her weekend morning to washing and treating her hair, and spending time with her roommate, Cookie. All the while, Malik has the nerve to keep texting Kim, trying to apologize for something he did. Jamila’s writing and Robyn’s drawings focus attention to small moments and small details while also painting a broader portrait of a woman in her 20’s. This comic is a celebration of black women, a love letter to self-care, and a poem about the good and the bad of living in New York City. Wash Day is an excellent example of nuanced and subtle storytelling in comics! English Version
