Lighthouse #2
Shining the Light on X-Men #1
Where do the exiled go when their corner of the world is gone?
Mutants are back, spread out across the world. Humans are back to persecuting them, punishing them for their existence. Cyclops is back to protecting them. Mutants were safe of human harm, having spent months in paradise free to be themselves. They let their guards down, made new relationships. Maybe they even got comfortable. But their home has been burnt to the ground.
Refugees thrown back, the main X-Men book follows Cyclops’ return to America with a hardened bitterness towards the outside world. Joined by Magneto in his new role as “Professor M,” Scott has decided that mutant protection is his mission, no matter the issues that mission may cause. Beast, on the other hand, seems excited to rebuild, taking advantage of their new facility and building a self-reliant mutant safe haven. The rest of the team–Juggernaut, Kid Omega, Magik, Psylocke, and Temper–have differing opinions, filling in the gaps between the opposing viewpoints.
The team is a ton of fun, even if they aren’t having much, and there’s a ton of tension built within the group that Scott has put together. Everybody’s here for the same reasons, but nobody has the same opinion on how to get things done.
This run carries a very classic feel while featuring new team dynamics, a different approach to the X-Men, and a new race of villain…
Marvel’s superstar writer, Jed MacKay, takes over the premiere super-team in comics with the artist that made Venom cool again, Ryan Stegman. J.P. Mayer’s inks bring out the action in the lines while Marte Gracia’s colors root you in the world. And I’ll never have anything but compliments for Clayton Cowles’ lettering.
If you’ve been enjoying X-Men ‘97, and that very core X-Men feeling, this is a great place for you. If you’ve never read an X-Men comic, this is a great place to start. July 10th, the new era of X-Men begins.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. I didn’t capitalize a single extra “X” in the whole thing, which means this is the most tame X-Men promotion since… anyway, check it out! It was a great read and I can’t wait to hear eXactly what you think!
