"Deadpool: Black, White, & Blood" Marvel: Each story in this first anthology issue is excellent. Each has a vastly different tone though all are uniquely Deadpool. The opening story is by far my favorite as it balances humor, righteous revenge and a wholesome heart-warming friendship. In second place is the final story, for a combination of the highly detailed linework and the zany war Wade finds himself in. And last but certainly not least is the second story which is a classic fetch quest with ample blood and a gotcha moment. Deadpool delivers 7 parental advisory warnings out of 10

 

"The Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox" DC: Matthew Rosenberg is setting up a grand mystery and our only guide is an unreliable witness. Assuming the large plot points revealed are accurate I think a careful reading reveals the answer. This I'd argue is the marking of a good mystery, giving the audience the ability to solve the case early without spoon feeding the answer. I love the classic character designs and the two styles of linework and coloring used to denote present day verses a flashback. The present day is clear and crisp with colors that balance the dark noir elements with being bright. Whereas the flashback panels are muddy, with blurry and less detailed lines. The heavy inks cling to the figures like a shadowy memory. The colors also shift to dull and muted, even the bright lights of  torch or a club are subdued. 8 temple of dooms out of 10

 

 

"Lucky Devil" Darkhorse: A story about a loser possessed by a demon lord and an exorcism gone wrong should be a lot of things, boring isn't one of them.

 

"The me you Love In The Dark" Image: A lone artist in search of inspiration moves into a haunted house and SPOILERS the ghost is friendly, pours her wine, starts her music, writes apology notes...so another boring book about the supernatural.

 

"We Don't Kill Spiders" Scout/Black Caravan: It took three books about the supernatural/occult but we finally have one that isn't boring! It's a Viking murder mystery, with a detective that doesn't believe in the Gods or the supernatural and must team up with a witch to solve a series of grisly ritualistic murders! It reminds me a lot of "Brittania"
