When the fire that killed Ashley Quinn’s father consumed the Quinn house, Ashley was saved by Fireman Nate “Nappy” O’Meara. Later, through the intervention of a warrior from the future, Ashley became Ash, the super-hero who can control fire. Now Nappy is being honored as the recipient of the Quinn Medal (named for Ashley’s father) for acts of courage and integrity. Coincidentally, Ashley’s sister Maureen, a police detective, has been probing Ashley for his buried memories of the fire that killed their father, a conversation that is not lost on Nappy. During the medal ceremony, an arsonist for hire, Molotov, turns the gathering into an inferno, bringing Ash to the surface to quench the flames. Molotov is working against the interests of the mob, a point that is significant to Nappy and another unsavory character called Smoke. More significant are Nappy’s directions for Smoke to eliminate Maureen, “the most dangerous of the Quinns.”
