Yeah, that’s kind of a strange title, I agree. However, it happens to be a conditional statement and as it just so happens, I’ve been helping the grandson with his geometry homework – conditional statements, converses, inverses, and contrapositives. These are a precursor to him writing proofs. Bring back memories? Hey, I didn’t say good memories!
Anyway, as many of you know, I own a 1972 Chevelle – Superman blue. Being a classic muscle car, I have it covered through Hagerty Insurance Company. As a customer, I receive frequent emails from them about how to do certain repairs, barn finds, performance comparisons, auction results, etc. – anything classic automobile related. This week, they brought up that there have been comic books over the years devoted to cars in a section titled: 5 classic automotive comics that you can read for free Learn more.
When I clicked on the link, it brought me to their article about comics that have been around for years that are car-centric. Remember “Gasoline Alley”? It’s been around since 1918 and is still going. It’s credited with being the first comic strip where the characters age as you followed the story and was one of the first soap operas of any sort.
The article mentions that the FREE site called “Comic Book Plus” has many more examples. Curious, I clicked the link for that site and discovered that you could read, even download, thousands of old, mostly golden-age, comics and, yes, FOR FREE! Not just automotive related comics, but all genres, are covered. Those not covered by heavy copyrights are represented and they’re adding more all of the time. And it not just comics, though they make up the majority of the content, but you will find fanzines, magazine, strips, old time radio, serials, pulps, even vintage movies and TV programs – and, of course, discussion rooms. Besides being able to enjoy the items, the site gives you all types of info regarding them – dates, characters, history, synopsis, and more. I was impressed, and though one can join for free to use all they offer (you need to answer a few non-personal questions to prove you’re not a robot), I donated a couple of bucks to help the cause. I still don’t know how to fancy up the blog with some neat pics other than inserting one at the top, so what you get here is a shot of my Chevelle sitting in my garage next to tons of you know what! And there are plenty more on the other side!
STAY SAFE – we’ll get through this!
