Well, COVID hit home!! No, nobody in my family has contracted the disease, thankfully. We practice safe distancing, using masks, avoiding crowds - you know, the whole sensible thing to do.But like so many other businesses, it has affected our shop. Reduced hours and reduced sales meant that something had to give and I was the obvious choice. I won't be behind the counter with any regularity, but do plan on filling in occasionally, running our flea markets (I hope), meeting prospective sellers to buy collections, taking books home to price, etc. I miss it already!
With a limited inventory on eBay, besides losing out on my weekly pay from the shop (I just applied for unemployment, though), I'm missing out on sales and potential profits from newly acquired buys. That means I have to come up with something in addition to cover the gap until things return to "normal".
How's this: I know that now that we are starting to get bombarded by political ads, and depending upon which corner you're coming from, I'm sure you REALLY dislike about half of them. What if we get some of you techie nerds together and come up with a program to SELL to Comcast, X-Finity, and all of the other broadcasters that would allow subscribers to automatically have ALL political ads removed from their viewing "pleasure".? Now of course, they can't have dead air, so as a subscriber, you would be given a menu of other commercials that would be plugged into those time slots. You would chose ones that you at least found non-annoying or perhaps even enjoyable/humourous. Naturally, subscribers would have to pay an extra fee for this convenience, buy, hey, I think a lot would take advantage if available. Other advertisers might even try to make their commercials more appealing so they are chosen by subscribers. They're getting "liked" and possibly the Comcasts, etc. could work in an additional fee to those selected due to increased air time. Yeah, there are a few details to be worked out, but I think it's a winner. Posted here on 7/2/2020 by ME, so I'm claiming a hefty chuck of change if this comes true!
However, until that comes through, I am still anxiously looking to buy new material. I've had no success bidding online. email me at "cbhcomics@msn.com" if you are selling. Be sure to put "comics for sale" in the message, as I usually delete emails from unknown addresses. Thanks
One of our duly elected politicians recently noted that "each day we are one day closer to the day we put this pandemic in the past". Alright, I can't argue with that. Doesn't really tell me much, but until that day comes, please, as cool as looking like The Lone Ranger is, wear your mask so it covers your nose and mouth! - STAY SAFE!!
