There are so many great lines in “Despicable Me 2”, and this one reminded me of the results of my recent attempt at a Scavenger Hunt for the shop. No one, not a single person, entered the contest!?
I was hoping that participating in this little event would provide a nice distraction from the pandemic and political ads we’re all experiencing at the moment. It had been years since I did one of these and previous ones were well received. Oh, well, wrong timing, I guess. We will try again at a future date when things return to normal.
Back to “Despicable Me 2”, I’ve seen it at least 20 times now, and I’m really not tired of it yet! Besides having a good story (I believe it to be the best of the 3 movies) and great animation, it also entertains the 1 ½ year old grand-daughter that Grandma and I watch during the week. For those who did at least check out the scavenger hunt trivia questions, the thing that the Despicable Me movies and Russian intelligence have in common is…GRU. (do I hear moans out there?)
Something that wasn’t a “boom-boom” was our Labor Day Flea Market & Collectibles Show. The weather was great – probably the nicest day we’ve ever had for one of these outdoor shows. And, from what I heard from all of the vendors, even with the shortened hours, it was a profitable one! We thank all of those who attended. Everyone, except two that I noticed, practiced COVID precautions. One was a regular of the shop who wasn’t wearing a mask. Had he stopped by my set-up. I would have said something. The second was someone who appears to be a dealer, but he did not sign up as a vendor, arrived after the show started, did not wear a mask, but opened the trunk to his car and sold out of the back. On top of that, Joe tells me he made a big “boom-boom” in the store’s back room. A class act.
So, when is the next comic show? I don’t know. Ricky and Dave don’t want to take a chance and promote a “super spreader” event, so the next First State Comic Con is on hold. The gang from PLB Comics have already canceled their Ocean City Comic Con that was to be held in December 9they already announced that they will be back 12/11/21 – a palindrome! From what I heard, the Baltimore Show was just cancelled due to the promoter having to wait for the city or convention center to say it first. Otherwise, he wouldn’t get his costs back!
The store is open, though with cut back hours - be sure to stop by. But most of all, Stay Safe!
