Founded by legendary comic book writer Alan Moore, America’s Best Comics was set up in 1999 as an imprint of WildStorm before it was eventually purchased by DC Comics. DC Direct released two deluxe sets under the America’s Best Comics line between 2000 and 2002, bringing to life both Promethea (and her human vessel, Sophie Bangs), as well as Tom Strong (together with his steam-powered manservant, Pneuman). Both deluxe sets include multiple accessories, and interestingly enough, despite not including any mention of DC Direct anywhere on the packaging, were advertised and shipped together with the other DC Direct releases at the time.
