Happy Monday!
Before I get to this week's highlights, I want to mention several upcoming events at Alter Ego Comics that you're invited to:
This Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4, we're running a Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale on all back issues and wall stock single issues (excluding new releases).
So come on in and fill those holes in your collection or start a new one!
Saturday, August 25 we're running a Smash-Up: Titans Touranment at Noon.
We had a great response last time we ran a Smash-Up Tournament, so we're expecting a great turnout for this one, too.
Our August 29th Book Club is Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan - you know, the guy that writes Saga, Paper Girls and Y: The Last Man?
This self-contained, award-winning story is priced at Half-Off while supplies last.
Haven't atteneded book club yet? Come join us. We'll even feed you :)
Wednesday, September 26, I'm hosting a special Meditation for Anxiety workshop in conjuction with the release of Heroes in Crisis #1 from DC Comics.
The comic is about how superheroes deal with PTSD and all of the stress in their lives, and I'll be sharing my story of being diagnosed with anxiety and depression two years ago and how mindfulness meditation has played an important part in living with it.
Finally, Halloween ComicFest is Saturday, October 27. It's a ways off, but don't miss this fall version of Free Comic Book Day.
You can find all the event info on our Facebook Page.
Here are this week's highlights:
Adventures of the Super Sons #1 (of 12) - perfect for fans of the previous series or anyone that wants to read about the sons of Superman and Batman teaming up.
Captain America #2 - The new creative team of Ta Na Hesi Coates and Leinil Yu take Cap into new territory with this action packed series. Issue #1 still available.
Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 - One of comics' hottest writers (Donny Cates) give us a future where Frank Castle (The Punisher) is now Cosmic Ghost Rider! Big, exciting, space-spanning story, and issue #1 is still available.
DC Superhero Girl: Out of the Bottle - Harley Quinn takes center stage in the latest volume of this successful series.
Infinity Wars #1: Did you read Infinity Wars Prime last week? MAJOR stuff happened for the Marvel Universe with the death of ******. This issue reveals the identity of the killer!
Leviathan #1: Poor Ryan DeLuca didn't buy enough beer for his party, and while he was out on a beer run his idiot buddies busted out some mystical arcana and performed a summoning ceremony-a ceremony that summoned a giant monster from hell! From the writer of Chew, John Layman.
Seeds #1: Editor Karen Berger helped launch Vertigo in the 1980's and brought Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison and others to tell amazing stories. Now she's doing the same thing over at Dark Horse with "Berger Books." This is the latest from writer Ann Nocenti (Daredevil) and artists David Aja (Hawkeye). Trust me - it's super cool!
Make sure to visit your Local Comic Shop this week, and thanks for reading!
