Wakanda Forever
Ahoy-Hoy Friends!
A sad blow has been struck against Earth's Mightest Heroes this week. RIP Chadwick Boseman. Wakanda Forever
"Batman: Three Jokers" DC: This is a solid book. Well written and paced excellently even with having to juggle so many characters. The art is fantastic and is composed with a cinematic flair, the panel layout revealing scenes and story beats that feels like a classic thanks in part to the nine panel grid. There are some strange concepts herer; don't let that fact scare you away though. It's mainly a triple homicide with one or three possible suspects. Geoff Johns pulls from major moments in these character's histories to accentuate their relationships and then twists the narrative subtly, allowing us to peer into another dimension of the characters. If you're unfamiliar with the stories he's referenciing, I'm sure this won't be as impactful, but the dialogue and art work like a Palanttir, however briefly, to transport the reader to another comic from another time. 8 Jokers out of 10
"Canto 2: The Hollow Men" IDW: Full disclosure: I haven't read volume one but this is shaping up to be a great sequel. It's good enough I'm gonna need to pick up volume one and start collecting the trades. Character design is great with each clockwork knight being unique enough to be easily distinguishable and poses its own sense of character. It's the beginning of a classic tale of heroism and good vs. evil. It's refreshing having a hero act like a hero. I love some deconstruction, and anti-heroes, but there is something simply beautiful reading about a good guy being good. 7 rebellions built on hope out of 10
"Fantastic Four: Antithesis" Marvel: I'm all about the classics, from creators to action and what's more classic than the Fantastic Four saving the world with art by Neal Adams! Adams is the star here with expressive faces, Reed's stretchiness, and clear actions. Don't discount the writing though, Waid is crafting a solid FF story, where their victory is literally the hook for the next chapter. 7 cream pies out of 10
